Life is about balance. Hope is a good thing but it works better when coupled with fear. Carrot is good but works better with threats of a stick. Paradise is good but sometimes we need Hell to keep us on the right track. Similarly, pride in the Muslim's past glory is good as motivation but it should also make us feel inferior enough to improve.
