I have never paid any cent to use FB but our Tourism Ministry spent RM1.8 million of the TAXPAYERS MONEY to develop & maintain 6 tourism fanpages. Despite the huge budget, one of the pages manage to attract only around 20k fans. I'm not from IT field or even close to amateur, but i can't see any reason why you'll need to spend 1.8m for designing, flash programming and coding, testing and debugging, uploading and launching the application, system server deployment and campaign management, as mentioned by the ministry.
I think it'd do good if both BN and PR engage IT experts to argue whether there is a need to spend over a million ringgit to develop and maintain FB pages to so-called promote tourism...Hmm.. now I know why the Gomen need to rationalise subsidies..
Tourism Ministry should perhaps learn from Zaharuddin.net or iluvislam.com on how to attract more fans for its fanpages. With RM1.8m it only managed to attract around 20k fans whereas both Zaharuddin.net & iluvislam.com - without big money - have gained 254,063 & 721,556 fans, respectively..!
